Gary Chester has over 25
years experience in the industry. He began his career as a mastering engineer
for United Artists studios, where he mastered albums for Bob Dylan, Donovan,
and the New Seekers. In his early years as an engineer he recorded and
mixed albums for Nancy Wilson, Jay and the Americans, and The Belmonts.
After opening New York's Counterpoint Studios and running it successfully
for many years, he joined the National group and opened The Edison Recording
Studio in New York's famous Times Square. A studio that was designed to
record and mix large orchestras, The Edison, (located in what was once
the ballroom of the Edison Hotel) hosted such acts as the Duke Ellington
Orchestra and the Count Basie Orchestra in the 1930's -- both of which
returned to The Edison in the 1990's to work with Gary.
Besides being one of New York's premiere film score engineers, Gary records
and mixes sessions for television, albums, and advertising. Among his
credits are feature films composed by Howard Shore, Tan Dun, Angelo Badalamenti,
Rachael Portman, Carter Burwell, Dave Robins and Stephen Endelman; the
soundtrack albums for Delovely, Dead Man Walking, Silence Of The Lambs,
Bronx Tales, Naked Lunch and Sweet Charity (the Broadway revival); the
television specials And The Band Played On..., Liza Minnelli: Triple Play;
and the Laramie Project for HBO. A few of the albums that Gary recorded
and mixed were for George Benson, Marianne Faithful, Barry Manilow, Sinead
O'Connor, John Tropea, Vanessa Williams and Linda Eder, John Faddis, The
Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the late Carl Perkins. Music for advertising
